Laboratory of Hydrogeology was founded in 1989 in Department of Geology University of Patras
and has a thorough laboratory infrastructure, which serves the teaching and research activities.

Research interests of Laboratory of Hydrogeology:
  • Study of the geometrical characteristics and the hydraulic parameters of aquifers, Quality and Quantity of groundwater. Simulations of groundwater movement.
  • Water Resources Management, Study of water regime in catchment areas. Hydrographs and relationship between surface runoff and infiltration. Simulations of the relation between rainfall and surface runoff.
  • Water-rock interaction, Water quality, Groundwater and soil contamination – monitoring, risk assessment and restoration. Simulations of hydrochemical processes.
  • Sitting of landfills and disposal of solid and liquid waste

Equipment includes:
  • Hydrology:
Automated weather stations, Waterlevel-temperature data loggers and current meters.
  • Hydrogeology:
Waterlevel meters, automated data loggers with multi-hydrochemical parameter sensors, soilsamplers.
  • Hydrochemistry:
Mass spectrometer with inductively coupled plasma (ICP-MS), Mass spectrometers (MS), Atomic absorption spectrometer (AAS), Spectrometer, Spectrophotometers, Ion meters, Portable equipment for measurement of pH-meter, conductivity, dissolved oxygen and redox potential.
